Tom was born and raised in South-East Queensland, Australia. He obtained his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2016, by which time he had relocated to Nottingham to work as a postdoc in Prof. Steven Howdle’s research group. For the next three years, Tom discovered the fascinating world of polymer synthesis in supercritical carbon dioxide, collaborating with industry partners to develop novel materials for use in applications ranging from energy storage to cosmetics. Having finally acclimated to the UK weather, Tom joined the team and moved to Manchester in 2019, where he worked as a KTP associate with Superglass Insulation to develop more sustainable resins for their insulation products. In 2021, Tom decided that he enjoyed life here so much that he had to stay on longer, taking up a new position as Research Fellow within the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub.
